I believe I have found some relevant and useful information for solving the mystery that is the blue wall. Upon doing extensive research, I have discovered that the color blue affects people by calming them, cooling them, and aiding their intuition. With this knowledge, it makes a lot of sense that the color blue was painted on the back wall in an effort to aid the person speaking in front of the class by making them slightly calmer and quick-witted.
This blue wall in our classroom is a test by The Ohio State psychology department. For years students have inhabited classrooms where all four walls are the same. Would students who mind their own business on a daily basis even notice or say anything? This experiment is designed for multiple purposes. One,to make progress towards discovering subconscious effects of color in a learning environment. The second goal of this experiment is to see once humans recognize that this blue wall is out of place, will they try and find meaning in it? or pass it off with a shrug of the shoulder? This seems like a great experiment to peak into the psyche of the human mind. One problem though, how will they receive the results? Maybe the department has hidden camera's in discrete locations throughout the room, or maybe just simply an audio recording device which would be much easier to hide. Now these ways of discovery would require a lot of time to review the tapes and find any results, so i propose a simple suggestion. Our teacher is in on the experiment. Before the quarter began, he was approached by the Psychology department and was asked to participate in this ground breaking experiment. Soon after, he agreed and the experiment began. The experiment was going too slow, so one day our class activity was to describe the room. From then on out, the experiment has been collecting all sorts of information based on our class behavior and subconscious actions. This is the well protected secret behind the "Blue Wall"
The reason I believe that the one wall is blue is because the color blue has shown to be more calming and more at ease. The color blue also shows that someone can be loyal or trustworthy. So it shows to the students that the teacher is loyal and trustworthy so the students will actually take in what the teacher is saying. The reason I think that only one wall is painted blue is because when blue is overused it can seem depressing so. This is the only thing that makes any sense to me as well. The sky and ocean are very peaceful and are pretty much the same color as the back wall. Blue can cause the body to produce chemicals that sooth you and works on both men and women alike. I think it is on the back wall more for the students that present to the class rather than the teachers. Students can be stressful so it could be helpful to the teachers, but I think it would do more for the students who present projects that are less comfortable in front of a crowd than teachers. It would make sense to paint classrooms this way in grade school where teachers have to be more patient and get more stressed with little kids.
I don't think the color blue is a good choice but I do agree that there is one wall with different color is a good choice. Imagine that you are sitting in a square room with four white walls just like what the movie show the environment that people are interrogating the criminal. I think most people will fell lonely and always suspect that some people peek themselves in some place. so that people would not focus on what they are doing. If we change the color of one wall. people will fell safe so they can concern more about what they are doing rather than think of something else. However, white and blue are all cold color. I believe if they painted the wall with a warm color like orange, it will become better. OR...we think too much about this wall. The reason why there is only one blue wall is the white paint is gone....
It is not easy to find a correct answer to this question because there are not enough information to make a conclusion. In architecture the color is important to make feel better a person who has to live in a space. If we think about a hospital we can have the picture of a light green or light blue room and not a red room. For a newborn the room will be pink or blue based on the sex. In a restaurant we can find different colors but they are always comfortable with the kind of customers the restaurant usually has. Coming to a conclusion, my personal one, I believe the wall in front of the teacher has been painted in blue for the theories of the color psychology. Blue is a color that gives calm and relax the nervous system. Which can be helpful to the teacher which is standing in front of 20 different people every one or two hours.
After researching the implicit meaning behind the color blue, I have decided to claim that the blue wall in our classroom was painted that way for a reason. In nature, blue is most often related to the ocean or the sky. Blue can give one a sense of calm and and inspiration, just like when someone embraces the radiant beauty of the ocean or the sky. Also, the natural vastness of these two entities relate blue with great distance. Artists will often use blue in their work to enhance perception. Since the teacher is facing the blue wall the entire time in a classroom setting, I reason that the wall's color is there only for the teacher. I believe it keeps the teacher poised and confident. In addition, blue's perspective ambiance allows the teacher to look beyond the classroom setting and increase his perspective on the topics at hand. This would inspire the teacher to put more insight into the material being taught. This could then very likely rouse enthusiasm in the students and lead to very interesting class discussions - which we all know happened every period.
